Diseases of the vascular system, which includes the arteries, veins, and lymphatic circulation, are treated with medical therapy, minimally invasive catheter procedures, and surgical repair. Surgery has a specialty called "vascular surgery." This specialty, which sprang from general and cardiac surgery, deals with the care of the body's other significant and vital veins and arteries. Both open surgery and endoscopic techniques are used to treat vascular diseases.
