Minimally invasive surgery is performed with a few sutures and minor incisions. One or more minor body incisions may be created during minimally invasive surgery. To direct the procedure, a laparoscope is introduced via one of the openings. This thin, tube-like instrument has a light and a viewing lens. Other incisions are used to insert tiny surgical instruments and perform the procedure. The recovery time following minimally invasive surgery may be shorter than that following traditional surgery since there may be less pain, scarring, and damage to good tissue.
